Sponsoring a child with cleftlip

11 March 2017 door Syta Plantinga Leave a Comment

In some cases a child with cleft lip or an open palate requires more sponsors. How does it work? First: the children (originating from Rote, Timor, Sumbawa and Flores) travel together with their parents and Kolewa staff to the Kolewa shelterhome at Bali, which requires costs for traveling and accomodation. Then, children and parents/supervisors will be lovingly taken care of at our shelterhome. Here they will be provided with a place to sleep, three meals a day and daily activities they can join. Next, which is most important, is to plan their medical journey.

Secondly, costs must be made for the operation, the accomodation of two nights at he hospital, medication and retesting at the Dharma Yadnya hospital. In 2016 these costs were covered by Rotary Club Nusa Dua (Bali) by means of a Global Grant. For 2017 we already made a new request. However, this will take several months. Before it can be granted, the accountability of the application must accepted by the international head office of the club.

The amount of the ticket price and operation can differ, depending on the duration of accomodation,. Though, approximately 500 euros is estimated for the operation and another 500 euros is estimated for traveling and accomodation. When the whole amount is donated by 1 sponsor, only that sponsor will named in showing pictures and publications of the progress. When only a part of the amount is donated (for instance 500 euros) than a combination of sponsors will be named in showing the progress.

Rotary club Nusa Dua still guarantees three operations per month at Bali and project Namaste supports the treatment of these children in the remaining costs. For that reason whe are urgently looking for companies, funds and private organisations who wants to financially support the whole process or only the operation on a monthly base.

For more information contact: info@kolewa.com

An example of the outlined situation is the little Aldius Putra from Flores. The dutch couple Suze and Andre support all costs associated with the operation. Project Namaste from Frankener, guarantee the travel and accomodation costs.

Both donations make it possible for Aldius to enter his medical journey. Shortly, he can live smiling again.

9 March 2017 door Syta Plantinga Leave a Comment

Stichting WWvK , VOB Partners, keukencentrum Zaandam, Helen & Danny Westerveld, Gezinshuis Stellaluna, Dhr.

From invisible to a future with a new face

23 February 2017 door Syta Plantinga Leave a Comment

Every Dutchmen remembers the big fire at Volendam. Young people were imprisoned in a sea of fire and a lot of the victims were severly burned. Despite this big catastrofe and terrible impact, these youngsters felt supported. Supported by medical staff, specialists, family and friends. Knowledge, money, compassion and professional help was available. Piece by piece these victims could turn their lives around again, ofcourse with ups and downs.

In Indonesia this is different, burn wounds are mostly caused at the home. Igonorance, lack of sufficient medical support and financial resources are the reasons of irreversible damage to the bodies of the victims. In the unlikely situation that a child will survive, a life of isolation and mutilation is inevitable. A few children were helped by Kolewa through plastic surgery. They were living deads, even rejected by their own families because of their appearance. Because of our help, these children are doing better now. There is hope for a brigther future.

We also want to give this brighter future to Nim Rot and Ida, a young boy from Sumba and a young women from Timor. They are suffering daily because of their mutulations due to burns. Also the fact that they are not able to move freely (because or their scars) is a huge discomfort for them.

New requests for help also requires new donations and sponsors. The urge of plastic surgery speaks for itself. The staff of Kolewa can provide all the necessities, journeys, support, accomodation and surgeries. What we do not have is the financial resources to help these two young people.

This is where we need YOU… for a warm heart, a gesture and an act!

Around 750 euro is required for the first consult at bali, including hosting these patients.

Board meeting: consolidation after expansion

15 February 2017 door Syta Plantinga Leave a Comment

The board of Kolewa looked back to a very successful 2016 during their meeting, for example: the renovation of Ruma Bicara made it possible to help more children. Furthermore, we successfully raised money for the school project for deaf children and gave them access to education/. But also the outreaches and the family gatherings at Bali Zoo… there was a lot to be proud of and so we were.

Moreover, Kolewa welcomed a variety of new donors who will support us on a regular base. Also many actions were taken so that a lot of people got to know the work of Kolewa. This resulted in the fact that the Kolewa Facebook account received more followers. Another result is the hard work that was done by the promotion team and especially by Zin in Webdesign. They realized the new website kolewa.com that was aired since the beginning of 2017.

Last but not least, we worked together with a diverse group of volunteers and interns who all positively contributed to the goals of Kolewa in their own way. Also the regular Indonesian staff of Kolewa has a lot of potential and is developing very nicely in becoming more independent.

In conclusion, it was a busy and intense year with a lot of achievements. 2017 will be the year of consolidation. Taking care to maintain the current projects will ask our constant attention, especially in providing enough financial support. Of course we will stay dedicated! Hopefully also with your help?
